Our first Classroom Connections program of the year kicked off last week with teaching 550 Salinas students about jazz music. We brought out the organization Jazzreach to come into the classrooms and demonstrate (live!) what they do. I think the kids liked it, what do you think?
Today the children will be coming to see Jazzreach perform their show “Hangin’ with Giants” at Sunset Center. We’re pretty excited!
It’s school day for the Carmel Authors and Ideas Festival! About 1400 middle schoolers have come to Sunset Center today to listen and have fun with a bunch of different authors. One of the highlights? Getting up on stage to be dressed in traditional Afghan clothes by author/activist Julia Bolz. Very cool!
Cirque Mechanics is a company that defies categorization: circus, dance, machinery, story telling, comedy…the list goes on and on! They will be bringing their brand new show “Boom Town” to Sunset Center on October 15th. “Boom Town” weaves all of these elements together with a wild west, gold mining theme, so get ready for explosions to fly! To see a bit of what they do, here is a video of their last show, “Birdhouse Factory”. So cool!
The Carmel Authors & Ideas Festival is coming up - this September 24th! We’re a bunch of bookworms here, and we’re getting pretty excited about it. Have you read any good ones lately? Share them! We’d love to hear! Found this article about the good reads coming out this Fall. (You can click on the title to link to the article). Which ones look good to you? (I’m defintely getting Johnathan Franzen’s “Freedom”!)
